India is currently looking for ways to transform its economy into a Green Economy that can bring about sustainable economic growth and social benefits while at the same time reducing pressure on the environment and climate. While several initiatives have been taken by the government, academia, private sector, civil society and international cooperation, efforts remain fragmented and would benefit from targeted agenda setting towards the green transformation of the Indian economy.
On behalf of the GIZ India, adelphi has identified options for promoting an inclusive green economy in India. The study, which is based on desk research and in-depth expert interviews, takes into account relevant initiatives, developments and discussions on green, low-carbon and inclusive economy in India as well as the existing project portfolio of bilateral cooperation between Germany and India. Another important aspect of the project was the conceptual development of the Indian Green Economy Awards, an event series that is meant to identify and foster upscaling and replication of local green innovations.
