While the world's population is growing, natural resources are becoming increasingly scarce and are under additional pressure due to the influence of climate change. This particularly affects the water, energy and food sectors, where security of supply can often hardly be maintained. It is therefore essential to create cross-sectoral solutions. One approach is the Water-Energy-Food Security Nexus (WEF Nexus), which focuses on the interdependencies between those sectors.
The WEF Nexus is the core of the Nexus Regional Dialogues (NRD) programme of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). It aims to implement inclusive water, energy and food security in five target regions. These include Latin America and the Caribbean, the Niger Basin, South Africa, Middle East and North Africa, and Central Asia. adelphi's task was to support this project in its second phase by developing and redesigning training materials for the WEF Nexus. In doing so, adelphi contributed to an increased application of the WEF Nexus approach in planning, policy making and implementation in the countries of the target regions. In addition, this service was intended to increase the interest of public and private investors in projects that follow the WEF Nexus approach. adelphi thus made an important contribution to competence development, networking and knowledge dissemination, which aims to consolidate institutionalisation of the WEF Nexus within the framework of the NRD programme.
