In the context of scarce fossil energy sources and escalating energy prices, innovative techniques for minimising energy use are vitally needed. Germany and India have been working together for decades and the former has achieved a good reputation in the field of energy efficiency.
German technical cooperation is also one of the most important donors in the Indian energy and electricity sector. Against this background a Capacity Building Programme was developed for the energy sector in India, under the aegis of adelphi. It was conceptualised through cooperative dialogues with decision-makers and potential partner institutions, as well as via strategic workshops. Based on the most recent developments of the Indian Energy Conservation Act, the project focuses on the steel, aluminium, paper, and power generation sectors. Furthermore, the regional energy agencies are trained in issues relating to industrial energy efficiency.
