Workshops on multi-level governance and climate action (12/09 in Agadir)

The V-LED team is happy to invite you to two contributions on multi-level governance and climate action during the World Climate Chance Summit for Non-State Actors in Agadir.

The second Climate Chance World Summit will be held in Agadir, Morocco, from 11 to 13 September 2017. With the vision to promote multi-stakeholder dialogues and concrete actions, the global summit will offer a unique opportunity to take stock on the engagement of non-state actors in climate action and to demonstrate collectively that it is through the reinforcement of concrete actions that the global community will succeed in acting on climate change.

To inspire and support this discussion, V-LED will contribute to two events on Tuesday September 12th 2017 focusing on multi-level governance, participation and climate action.

Workshop COOP3: Multi-level Governance, Participation and Climate Action - Participate – Engage – Create! How non-state actors contribute to climate governance processes and outcomes.

This workshop puts non-state actors at the centre of the discussion on climate change governance and action. Our key questions are: How can we best achieve civil society participation in climate policymaking? And how can we engage the private sector in climate action?

Benson Ochieng from the Institute for Law and Environmental Governance(ILEG) in Kenya will share his experience on creating a participatory process and involving communities in the development of a Climate Change Bill at the local government level in Kwale County.

Sylvia von Stieglitz from GIZ will discuss opportunities for private sector engagement in climate action, sharing experiences from the PSACC Projectthat is assisting enterprises in dealing with climate-related risks.

Join us to engage in a hands-on discussion on the “how” of non-state actors’ contribution to climate action and connect with representatives from different sectors.

Forum on Multi-actor Governance of the International Climate Governance Coalition 

The International Climate Governance Coalition (ICGC; co-pilots: Comité 21, European Economic and Social Committee, European Committee of the Regions) is inviting participants to a forum to put the spotlight on multi-level climate governance – presenting the preliminary results of the coalition’s work and inviting participants to debate on the challenges and needs of multi-level and multi-stakeholder climate governance.

V-LED furthers this important discussion by joining the coalition’s panel discussion on the development of a “climate governance toolbox”, sharing research outcomes on multi-level climate governance processes and practical learnings from the V-LED project’s that support local climate action in Africa and South East Asia.
