As part of the Vulnerability Network, five expert workshops were held between December 2012 and January 2013. The goal of these workshops was to collaborate with leading experts across various sectors of the “German Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change” (DAS) on the operationalisation of impact chains developed during this project.
These impact chains map the effects of climate change onto specific sectors, thereby making them fundamental to the forthcoming Germany-wide vulnerability assessment. Scientists from various universities, government agencies and organisations met during the workshops, using diagnostics and indicators to evaluate the impact chains. The quantification of climate signals, sensitivities and adaptive capacities is an essential step in assessing vulnerability. The collective knowledge of network partners, external experts and the consortium now provides a solid foundation for modelling the interdependencies of the various components of vulnerability in each sector.
