Transformation of the energy system: Exchange between New York State and Germany

From the 19th to the 23rd of June, adelphi coordinated a delegation trip for decision-makers and energy experts from New York State. The exchange in Berlin focused on the dialogue on energy policy issues with regard to strategies and measures for the energy transition.

Both the State of New York and the German government are pursuing ambitious plans for the energy transition. New York has set itself the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent compared to 1990, with a 50 percent share of renewables in energy generation by 2050. The German government is also aiming for a reduction of greenhouse gases by 80 to 95 percent and a share of renewables in gross final energy consumption of 60 percent by 2050.

The goal of the delegation trip was to exchange and pool transatlantic expertise and experience to address the challenges of these ambitious goals. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) invited 15 political decision-makers and energy experts from the State of New York to Berlin. The delegation met, among others, the BMWi, the German Energy Agency, Agora Energiewende, Berlin Energy Agency and the Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation.

adelphi coordinated the delegation trip as part of the project "Supporting the German federal government in its energy dialogues with Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the USA" on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). The trip was organized by the Renewables Academy (RENAC) and the German American Chambers of Commerce (GACC).
