Adaptation to climate change impacts plays an increasingly important role in German climate policy. The Federal Environment Agency (UBA), on behalf of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety has been consigned a consortium led by adelphi to build the so-called “Network Vulnerability”.
The network aims at creating a complete, nationwide and trans-sectoral picture of Germany’s vulnerability against climate change. Within the Adaptation Action Plan the network is a key step for the further development of the German Adaptation Strategy. The task of the scientific consortium led by adelphi is to organise the network to provide professional support.
A first kick-off meeting of network partners was arranged in October 2011 in Berlin. On 12th and 13th of March a networking workshop took place in the Federal Press Office in Berlin. The aim was to inform a wide range of stakeholders about the project and to win additional partners for active cooperation. Aims, approach and methods as well as first results were presented.
The network will continue to meet regularly to enable all network partners to participate and plan the next steps. Furthermore, workshops are intended to include external experts in the development of results in the second half of 2012.
