In the face of halting climate talks and increasing extreme weather events, the subject of adapting to climate change is under growing discussion: Not only should we implement climate protection measures, we must also prepare ourselves for inevitable climate changes and the consequences th
The set of criteria should make it possible to distinguish productive measures for adaptation from those that could possibly lead to maladaptation. Criteria that can be applied here concern, for example, the reasonableness of means or the flexibility of adaptation measures. Flexibility and the possibility for readjustment are crucial in ventures such as protecting coastlines from rising sea levels. Should the increase be more or less severe than originally anticipated, a capacity to adapt the protective measures to the actual scenario via a cost-effective expansion or reduction would be a considerable advantage.
Over the course of the project, adelphi will continue to gather examples of good practice, which will be entered into a database made available to the public by the Federal Environment Agency – the so-called “Adaptation Tatenbank”. adelphi is redesigning and reorganizing this database in order to make the tool more attractive for users. To increase the public profile of the database, adelphi will devise a communication strategy, which will be implemented in cooperation with the Federal Environment Agency’s Competence Centre on Climate Impacts and Adaptation (KomPass). The primary target groups of the “Tatenbank” are medium-sized and smaller businesses, local and regional authorities, and organizations.
