The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is organising a scenario development workshop in Central Asia to identify potential security implications of climate change in this region. adelphi together with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) supports the OSCE in preparing and conducting the workshop and it´s results.
The consequences of climate change begin to unfold in more and more regions of the world and will increasingly do so. Preventive measures and early actions are necessary to avoid negative impacts. However, there is only limited knowledge on concrete impacts, making responses difficult to plan. Scenarios may support decision-making by highlighting the potential range of risks and mitigating actions.
The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is therefore organising a scenario development workshop in the Central Asian countries Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to identify potential security implications of climate change in this region. adelphi together with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) supports the OSCE in preparing and conducting the workshop and it´s results.
These activities are thereby part of a larger project jointly implemented by the OSCE and the European Environment Agency (EEA). The aim of the larger project is to generate policy recommendations for the respective member states with a view to mitigate the worst consequences of climate change. A first scenario development workshop was already conducted in February 2011 on Eastern Europe in Ukraine.
