In order to face the central environmental challenges of the 21st century, the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) is seeking a concept to ecologically modernise the German national economy. A consortium led by adelphi is analysing the necessary requirements for modernisation and investment and developing proposals for instrumentation.
The starting points of the project are among others the environmental goals of the national sustainability strategies as well as the central medium and long-term environmental goals to guarantee sustainable development. Prosperity and development will only be possible for everyone when it becomes feasible to decouple economical growth from the consumption of energy and resources, as well as to decrease overall consumption. For this a fundamental ecological modernisation of the economy is necessary.
Against this background a consortium led by adelphi will develop a concept to analyse and concretise the need for ecological modernisation in Germany. The next step will be to economically evaluate the identified possibilities with a view to the consequences and long-term effects in the form of a cost-benefit analysis. Modernisation strategies and recommendations will be derived for the basis for the realisation of an adequate political frame-work.
