Climate protection measures in the building sector can play a major role in slowing the process of climate change. At the 13th annual workshop of the Cleaner Technology Initiative (CTI) experts had the opportunity to trade ideas about innovative and effective approaches for the GHG reduction.
Sixty participants from sixteen different countries discussed the important role of building regulations on energy consumption, for example those developed in South Africa. In this vein, nationally appropriate mitigation actions (NAMAs) are a promising international instrument for climate protection, as they allow for the efficient consolidation of energy efficiency measures, as has been seen in Mexico. Certificate programmes are another important tool, for instance the passive house standard for energy efficient buildings. City-based approaches to climate friendly construction are also important for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Indeed, all such measures must be made more attractive to banks in order to foster greater investment in energy efficiency programmes.
adelphi will also organise the 14th CTI Workshop in 2013, on behalf of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety in Berlin. The achievements reached in this year’s workshop will be built upon in 2013.
