Innovative ways to implement NDCs – Workshop in Washington, D.C.

From 25 to 27 June, adelphi supports a workshop on the challenges in implementing Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The workshops aims at developing new approaches on how to overcome problems regarding NDC implementation in the fields of transparency and governance.

The workshop is conducted within the NDC Support Cluster – a network that is funded in the framework of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) in order to support developing countries with the implementation of their NDCs. The cluster has four distinct thematic working groups on the topics of governance, sectoral approaches, finance and transparency.

Objectives: Raised ambition and strengthened credibility 
For the workshop, a group of implementing and government partners will discuss how the implementation of NDCs can be supported and accelerated. The overarching goals of the workshop are to promote NDC ambitions and strengthen credibility and the long-term orientation of the NDC implementation process. By the end of the three days, participants shall identify common challenges and experiences. They will also come up with solutions on how to improve transparency and governance of NDC implementation based on the innovative formats like World Café, focus group discussions, and peer-to-peer consultations. The workshop will result in a set of new approaches and recommendations on how to overcome challenges in implementing NDCs in the partner countries. adelphi has supported the Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Resource Institute (WRI) with designing and carrying out the workshop. 

About the NDC Support Cluster
Funded by the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), the NDC Support Cluster convenes thought leaders on the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC). Together, they form a collaborative think tank on NDC implementation under the BMU’s International Climate Initiative (IKI) to determine and raise awareness on what works and what is needed for effective NDC implementation.
