adelphi has designed an online platform on climate impacts and adaptation in the Baltic Sea region which is available as of now. It is integrated into the European Platform Climate-ADAPT and gives information on regional climate impacts and political strategies.
The Baltic Sea region faces significant climate impacts: it is expected that the annual average temperature will increase. This entails a higher freshwater inlet from rivers, which again leads to a decreased salinity in the Baltic Sea - with impacts on the biodiversity of the sea.
The Federal Environmental Agency had commissioned adelphi to develop an online platform on the consequences of climate change and adaptation projects in the Baltic Sea region in the context of the inter-regional project “Baltadapt”. In cooperation with the European Environment Agency, this platform was integrated into the existing website Climate-ADAPT.
The new sub-section on the Baltic Sea region provides introductory texts focusing on the expected consequences of climate change, the political strategies of inter-regional cooperation and adaptation measures. Furthermore, the platform offers a comprehensive overview of thematically relevant studies, projects, key players and several other important issues.
