With business models ranging from solar energy for rural electrification, to alternative transportation and organic agriculture, the five winning organizations were awarded for their innovativeness and achievements in combating climate change. Award winners hail from Egypt, Ghana, Uganda, Cambodia and India. They received a 5,000 euro prize and will have the opportunity to present their work to influential audiences at the occasion of the 15th International Business Forum 2012.
Launched in September 2011, the IMPACT Business Award (Innovative Models Promoting Adaptation and Climate Technologies) was organized by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). More than 130 applications from 33 developing and emerging countries were presented. In addition to a majority of business cases in the field of climate change mitigation, the competition saw also some innovative models for adaptation to climate change as for example in the field of agriculture and ecotourism.
