“What to do with the Agenda 2030?” – the motto of the 13th BMBF Forum for Sustainability. Over 400 experts from the worlds of research, business, politics, and civil society are coming together for two days in Berlin to discuss the contribution research can make to the implementation of the United Nations Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and especially its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“Research for the SDGs” – Focus on the topic “Global Resource Water”
The fulfilment of the SDGs and in particular SDG 6 "Clean water and sanitation facilities" means protecting these natural lifebloods while at the same time ensuring all people are supplied with drinking water and sanitation facilities. At the same time, the global resource water (SDG 6) as a component of the biosphere is a basis for all global development goals at a social and economic level. Here, research can make an important contribution to the implementation of the SDGs, for example through the development of innovative approaches to solving water pollution and to increase the efficiency of water use. This topic is the subject of the workshop "Research for the SDGs" on the topic "Global Resource Water" on 10 May 2017, where adelphi will be represented within the framework of the BMBF networking and transfer project GROWnet.
The workshop focuses on the state of global water resources and current developments at the interfaces with other sectors, including using the example of the “water-energy nexus”. There will be various contributions from experts from the research and business sectors, as well as interactive exchange within working groups. adelphi’s insights from this workshop on the central role of the topic of water for the SDG process, and especially on the role of research within SDG6, can be followed:
