Growing demands for a sustainable supply chain pose considerable challenges for small and medium sized businesses. Yet at the same time, companies can benefit from the opportunity to promote themselves with credible corporate social responsibility (CSR). The implications of this for CSR advisors were discussed by over 80 participants at a networking event organised by adelphi in Berlin.
CSR specialists from across Europe came together for the first time on 12 and 13 June for the event, BarCamp “Better CSR Advice to SMEs” in Berlin. Over 80 participants from 24 European member states, Turkey, Croatia and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia discussed how new and sustainable business models for small and medium sized companies can be developed, how networks can be built and utilised, and which strategies the individual states in Europe are following.
adelphi had organised the event on behalf of the European Commission, together with IFOK. The participants not only put the programme together according to their needs, but also arranged the 13 sessions themselves. This enabled BarCamp to offer a lively discourse and reveal the numerous approaches in Europe to advising SMEs on corporate social responsibility. A brochure for SME advisors will bring the results together in a clear summary.
