The first call of the European City Facility (EUCF) closed on 2 October 2020 with more than 250 applications received from municipalities and local authorities from all EU-27 countries and the UK.
From 25 May until 2 October 2020, European municipalities and local authorities had the opportunity to apply to the first call for applications of the EUCF. To better manage the funds available and the applications received, the EUCF countries (EU-27 and UK) have been divided into three regions:
Central and Eastern Europe (Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovenia and Slovakia), with up to 11 beneficiaries;
Nordic countries and Western Europe (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Sweden, United Kingdom), with up to 11 beneficiaries; and
Southern Europe (Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Spain), with up to 8 beneficiaries financed in the first call.
Next steps
The dedicated evaluation team of the EUCF now starts evaluating the applications based on a set of evaluation criteria. The results will be published in December 2020.
Successful applicants receive financial support in the form of a 60,000 euro grant and capacity building services to develop sound investment concepts and consequently mobilise financing to implement their sustainable energy projects. Unsuccessful applications can be revised and re-submitted in the next call for applications that will take place in March and April 2021.
