adelphi and Perspectives are developing suggestions for the Federal Environment Ministry on how to successfully transform the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) into New Market Mechanisms (NMM) and potential emissions trading schemes for selected developing countries and emerging economies.
To meet the 2 degree target agreed upon in the framework of the international climate negotiations, developing countries and emerging economies have to be more involved in global efforts to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions. Those countries need to be supported in implementing measures going beyond the project-based Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).
adelphi and project partner Perspectives will sketch out possible options for a successful transition towards a global carbon market on the basis of country-based case-studies. New Climate policy instruments such as sectoral CDM, New Market Mechanisms and Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) could systematically support the transition to a low carbon economy.
