In its latest report, the Worldwatch Institute has brought together international experts’ most up-to-date findings on sustainable urban development. On 7th June, the Institute will officially introduce the report in Germany in a joint launch event with adelphi and the GIZ.
Urbanisation is one of the most decisive trends of our time: urban populations are growing unabatedly and their demand on natural resources is growing. Global challenges thus increasingly demand urban solutions. To give sustainable urban development a global framework, the "New Urban Agenda", the draft of which is currently being debated internationally, will be adopted at the UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) in October 2016.
Against this backdrop, the Worldwatch Institute is using its "State of the World 2016" to ask the question: Can a City Be Sustainable? In the report, internationally recognised experts, including adelphi’s Franziska Schreiber and Alexander Carius, present a cross section of current findings on sustainable urban development. On 7th June, it will be officially launched in Germany. adelphi is organising the event jointly with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Worldwatch Institute.
In a podium discussion, Michael Renner (Worldwatch Institute), Sabine Drewes (Heinrich Böll Foundation), Prof. Günter Meinert (GIZ) and Franziska Schreiber (adelphi) will assess the report’s results and discuss their implications in light of current global developments. adelphi’s managing director, Alexander Carius, will moderate the event.
