The European Commission’s Directorate-General for the Environment will use the 2011 European EMAS Awards to select organisations that are particularly successful engaging employees, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders in improving their environmental performance.
In collaboration with the European Commission adelphi is responsible for the organisation of the prize-giving on 17 November in Krakow, Poland, as well as for supporting the EU member states in selecting the nominated organisations. Therefore, adelphi will set up and oversee an international jury, which will select the best organisations from the EU members’ proposals.
The EMAS Awards are the most prestigious awards in Europe for environmental management. Since 2005 the environmental performance of EMAS-registered organisations has been distinguished in six categories, with a different annual focus area. At this year’s event the European Commission awards a prize to EMAS-registered organisations that are particularly successful engaging stakeholders in improving their environmental performance. This engagement can take place through the active involvement of employees in the practiced environmental management, or by fostering environmental protection throughout the supply chain.
