A new publication gathers 24 authors around the question in which ways climate change and responses to it are also important drivers for resistance, crime and terrorism.
Global environmental change and the degradation of many natural resources continue unabated. At the same time, the dependence on these dwindling resources is ever increasing while the ability to alter and interfere with the environment is rapidly spreading. Although this knowledge could be used to improve sustainability, it may also be used for criminal and hostile purposes. This book brings together a range of leading scholars to investigate how environmental change and responses to it may drive unrest, fuel environmental crime and relate to terrorism. The chapters examine these changes, their causes and consequences, and engage the reader in thinking about potential solutions.
Clementine Burnley, senior project manager with adelphi, is one of the editors of “Global Environmental Change: New Drivers for Resistance, Crime and Terrorism?” The book is connected to the adelphi project "SECURENV: Assessment of environmental accidents from a security perspective".
