Ecological modernisation measures will have a beneficial impact on the German economy. This was the conclusion reached by a workshop organised by adelphi at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).
In front of an audience of specialists, adelphi presented the findings of research examining the introduction of a modern environmental policy approach to promote the ecological modernisation of the economy. The study was conducted in cooperation with the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) on behalf of the Federal Environment Agency (UBA).
The conclusion: if properly structured, coherent and ambitious ecological modernisation measures can have a beneficial impact on employment and training patterns, investment and growth. The study particularly examined the use and potential of economic policy instruments, focussing on renewable energies, energy efficiency, sustainable transport and resource efficiency. adelphi also proposed principles that could form the basis of a modern environmental policy approach to promote ecological modernisation.
