How has renewable energies research been supported in 2013 and which sectors have been at the centre of funding activities? The Renewable Energies Research Funding Yearbook provides answers. Together with an online database, it offers a comprehensive overview of funding priorities and activities.
In 2013, the Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMU) supported research and development projects in the area of renewable energies to the tune of 186 million euros. This funding represents an increase of 31.5 million euros on the previous year. This is shown in the current Renewable Energies Research Funding Yearbook 2013, which was produced by adelphi on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi).
This yearbook describes which sectors benefited from the funding and sets out the Ministry’s funding priorities. It comprises the complete set of the BMWi’s research projects being implemented in the areas of wind energy, photovoltaics, solar and geothermal energy, integration of renewable energies into energy supply systems and the design of future electricity markets.
On the basis of a transfer of competence, project funding for research and development of renewable energies was transferred from the BMU to the BMWi at the start of the current legislative period. Despite this transfer, funding priorities remain focused fully on wind energy and photovoltaics, both of which have a significant role to play in Germany’s energy transition.
For the second successive year, adelphi has taken responsibility for designing and editing the yearbook. Tying into the newly published 2013 yearbook is a redesign of the online database. With the help of a search function and broadened search criteria, all projects supported since 2007 can be called up and displayed. The database itself was also updated and appears in the design of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
The Renewable Energy Research Funding Yearbook 2013 and the accompanying database are now available under www.forschungsjahrbuch.erneuerbare-energien.de.
