On 17 December 2021, the European City Facility (EUCF) successfully closed its third call with more than 160 applications from municipalities and local authorities across Europe.
From 15 October to 17 December, municipalities and local authorities, their groupings and local public entities aggregating municipalities/local authorities could submit their applications for the third EUCF call. As in the first two rounds, the third call ran in parallel for three geographic regions in Europe, encompassing applications from the EU-27 Member States, the EEA-EFTA States (Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein) and the United Kingdom. The highest number of applications came from the Central and Eastern Europe region (41%), followed by Southern Europe (35%) and the Northern Countries and Western Europe (24%).
The EUCF provides to successful applicants financial support in the form of a 60,000 euro grant as well as technical support and capacity building services for the development of sound investment concepts for their sustainable energy projects. In total, 644 applications have been submitted across the three EUCF calls, and in the first and second EUCF calls, 99 successful applicants were selected to become a EUCF beneficiary. The third call will support the development of 69 investment concepts, with a total budget of 4,14 million euro allocated to the three regions.
