The challenges facing the international community are growing while the willingness to cooperate seems to be waning and unilateral action at times gets in the way of joint solutions. German foreign policy can pave the way for transformative change by actively supporting a major achievement of multilateralism: the 2030 Agenda with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs have a common aim: more peace and justice worldwide. But what exactly is the role of foreign policy in the global sustainability architecture? What are the fields of engagement and tools of a new "Diplomacy for Sustainability"?
To discuss these new foreign policy challenges, adelphi, the German Federal Foreign Office and SDSN Germany are co-organising a panel discussion on 30 April 2019 in the Europasaal at the Federal Foreign Office. The event aims to promote exchange between experts in foreign and development policy, civil society and academia on what is needed for a truly sustainable foreign policy and successful crisis prevention. Discussion topics are based on a study conducted in cooperation with renowned international partner institutions such as the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the Center on International Cooperation (CIC) at New York University and the CDP.
