Twenty years after the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, comprehensive reform of sustainability policy is still necessary both nationally and internationally. As a concept for society as a whole, sustainable development demands not only action by governments, but also by other societal actors, in particular the private sector. In their recently published book, “Nachhaltigkeitsstrategien in Politik und Wirtschaft. Treiber für Innovation und Kooperation?” (“Sustainable Development Strategies in politics and business: Driver for innovation and cooperation?"), editors Jutta Knopf, Rainer Quitzow, Esther Hoffmann and Maja Rotters comprehensively analyze sustainability strategies in public policy and the economy, and provide an overview of existing concepts, goals and implementation mechanisms. In selected national and international case studies, new perspectives and options for the promotion of innovation and public-private cooperation for sustainable development are discussed. The book was recently published in Munich by the oekom verlag.
