National Centre for Environmental Education, Rhineland-Palatinate
The scientific climate reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), such as Nicholas Stern's analysis regarding the interrelationship between economic development and climate change, depict a dramatic picture of the regional impacts of climate change. Societies with low adaptive capacities are frequently most affected. Moreover, studies of the Scientific Committee of the German Federal Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU) or the U.S. Center for Naval Analyses (CNA) point to the growing potential for conflict and the rise of social tensions caused by climate change.
Against this background, an update of the exhibition "Environment, Conflict and Cooperation" was necessary to conduct. The recent focuses of the different security policy dimensions of climate change were substantiated and the connection between climate change, fragile statehood and governance issues was highlighted. Due to the financial support given by the Federal State Center for Environmental Education Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, the exhibition could be upgraded, continuously developed and shown within the Rhineland-Palatinate region.
