The consequences of climate change challenges the tourism sector, for example through changes in temperatures, precipitation and extreme weather events and the resulting impacts on natural landscapes, infrastructures and travel behavior. The state-owned tourism management organisation of Lower Saxony (Germany) supports the travel regions and tourism service providers of the state in the adaptation to climate change. The project "Tackling Climate Change" kicked off a joint adaptation process with the goal of empowering tourism stakeholders in Lower Saxony to adapt to climate change.
To achieve this goal, the project team developed a variety of background documents and practice-oriented tools for all 15 travel regions in Lower Saxony with the involvement of tourism stakeholders. Core of adelphi's work was to conduct a climate impact and risk assessment and to prepare the results of the analysis for the travel regions of Lower Saxony tailored to the target groups.
