The consequences of the climate crisis pose a significant risk to sustainable development, economic stability and social welfare of countries. Signing the Paris Agreement in 2015, the international community committed itself to limiting the global temperature increase to below 2°C. To achieve this, the so-called Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) play an important role. Therefore, a systematic implementation of the NDCs and the desired transformation processes towards climate-resilient and climate-friendly development in partner countries requires special attention and consideration in development cooperation.
On behalf and in close consultation with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), adelphi developed innovative concepts for supporting carbon neutral and climate resilient development for implementing the NDCs effectively, complying with the goals of the Paris Agreement. The project focused on the nexus of climate and development policies while integrating different strategies for implementing the NDCs. Other key aspects were climate change adaptation, better integration of the climate agenda and national development processes as well as a variety of climate finance mechanism.
Within the project, exemplary initiatives and a range of forward-looking topics for work in the field of climate policy were identified. adelphi also supported the pilot implementation of innovative concepts to improve the integration of the climate agenda and national development processes in chosen countries.
