EU member states are obliged to inform the EU Commission in National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs) about how each country intends to contribute to the EU climate targets. This gives the EU the opportunity to plan and manage activities to achieve the important climate protection targets.
The requirements for the development of a NECP are relatively demanding. Among other things, the extent to which the consequences of climate change can have an impact on national climate protection activities - for example, if less electricity can be produced from hydropower due to prolonged drought - should also be examined. For this reason, adelphi supports the member states in a large team in the further development of the NECPs on request. In addition, adelphi regularly summarises the developments surrounding the NECPs in Germany and Austria for the EU Commission as part of an ongoing monitoring process.
