Roundtable on youth, education and migration in the Maghreb

Violent protests orchestrated by the unemployed graduates, profound changes in the labour market and continuous migration issues present a major challenge for the youth and young adults living in the three Maghreb countries (Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco). Due to those particularly affected by these trends, they were the focus of the third "Maghreb Roundtable".

In 2009, adelphi conceptualised for the GTZ programme office "Cross-cultural relations with Islamic countries" a two-day roundtable discussion in Seville. The purpose aimed to bring experts from government, civil society, research and development from the three Maghreb countries, Germany and Spain together, and develop common strategies to handle migration and youth issues. In addition to the intercultural exchange and the establishment of a regional networking, formulating policy recommendations for culturally sensitive development was the primary focus. The results of the roundtable and a summary of the presentations are located in the GTZ-documentary "Table Ronde du Maghreb: les jeunes, l'éducation et la migration" has been published.
