Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies e.V. (IASS)
In the summer of 2011, the German Federal Government decided upon a new energy transition policy, ushering in the rapid and comprehensive transformation of Germany’s energy system. This energy transition is a challenging and complex project; it aims for a timely phasing out of nuclear energy for civilian use while avoiding restrictions in supply or reduced efforts to mitigate climate change, also seeking to prevent social or competitive distortions.
The IASS was commission to supervise the energy transition from a scientific perspective, with adelphi supporting the IASS with its study and selecting indicators for the mapping of various facets of the energy transition as comprehensively as possible. adelphi thereby created the basis on which scientific monitoring of the energy transition could be properly directed, while making informed and justifiable trade-offs in cases of conflicting objectives.
