IEeWASTE – Indo European e-Waste Initiative

In India, e-waste recycling is almost entirely left to the informal sector, which does not have adequate means to handle either the increasing quantities or certain processes. This leads to devastating risks for human health and the environment. Thus, the IEe-WASTE project aimed to reduce environmental degradation through e-waste recycling, extending income opportunities for e-waste recyclers, improving management and strengthening links between the EU and India. In doing so, best practice(s), policies and technologies have been exchanged. More specific objectives included provision of improved technologies and skills for e-waste management and recycling in India, improving the environmental, health and living conditions of the predominantly unskilled and semi-skilled workers, and the local populations of surrounding areas.
