In this project, adelphi was responsible for designing the content of and delivering a training course for Moroccan government officials. The two-day programme included an introduction to the topics of "WTO and environmental protection", "Environmental protection in the context of the EU Association Agreement with Morocco" and the "Clean Development Mechanism" of the Kyoto Protocol. An in-depth analysis of the relationship between trade liberalisation and potential environmental problems caused by increasing international trade was carried out, along with other assessments.
A range of exercises served to demonstrate Morocco’s room for negotiation in the context of international talks to the participants, as well as what domestic political measures would have to be taken in order to prevent trade liberalisation having a negative environmental impact as far as possible. In addition, the course participants were shown how international environmental agreements have the potential to promote environmental protection.
