Renewable energy is an important factor in achieving sustainable development on many levels, including in terms of energy, economic and environmental policy. Nevertheless, it still suffers from a distinct lack of promotion on the international stage. When consideration was being given to establishing an International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the issue of inadequate representation of renewable energy by institutions was looked at in an international context.
As part of this project, adelphi examined how renewable energy can be efficiently and effectively promoted at the international level. Various possible organisational forms and methods of institutional integration were identified and reviewed in terms of their suitability and feasibility. Once the most appropriate solutions for developing an institutional framework had been determined, concrete ways of implementing those solutions were put forward.
