Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH
Against the backdrop of the Habitat III process, which will culminate in the adoption of the New Urban Agenda (NUA), the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the federal state of Berlin jointly hosted the German Habitat Forum in June 2016.
The two-day forum not only provided a platform for exchange for its over 1.000 national and international participants, but also aimed at developing recommendations that will provide a fresh impetus for the Habitat III process, and specifically the New Urban Agenda. By proposing concrete implementation measures and developing ideas for the future urban governance architecture, the ‘Berlin Recommendations’ thus added substantial stimuli to the Habitat III process, particularly as regards the third PrepCom in Surabaya (July 2016) and the Habitat III conference in Quito (October 2016).
adelphi supported the BMZ and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in the organisation of the German Habitat Forum and the development and dissemination of the Berlin Recommendations. A joint team of rapporteurs by adelphi and GIZ captured results of the various workshops during the forum and ensured that they were reflected in the Berlin Recommendations. Additionally, adelphi produced a conference brochure which elaborates further on the key topics and results of the German Habitat Forum and the Berlin Recommendations. Following the forum, its results were fed into the Habitat III process and shared with a wider audience through accompanying communication measures.
