Climate financing as a challenge for good financial governance

As part of a consultancy project on climate finance and good financial governance (GFG) on behalf of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), adelphi provided an overview of the nexus between the dynamic field of climate finance and implied challenges for financial governance.

adelphi assessed selected national climate funds which aim to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, protect forests, and adapt to climate change, all whilst blending in national and international sources of funding. Moreover, adelphi analysed a range of approaches for identifying the climate sensitivity of public budgets, also evaluating their relevance to German development cooperation efforts. Finally, adelphi discussed the prospects for a transparent and accountable use of climate finance funds and developed ideas of how German development efforts can address the challenges brought about at the nexus of climate finance and good financial governance.
