The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development ran a regional training programme on environmental policy and law in the South Caucasus through Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The programme was implemented in close cooperation with the Environment Ministries of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. It aimed at strengthening partner institutions and supporting further alignment of domestic environmental legislations with EU environmental accords in the area of environmental planning, green industrial policy, climate change adaptation and biodiversity conservation. Additionally, the partner institutions' capacity in generic management skills was strengthened. With the conducted training activities, the participants enhanced their skills to develop environmental policies further and improve the national legislative basis.
Throughout the programme, 33 domestic training courses and three international study visits were conducted. adelphi was responsible for the overall design and implementation of the programme (including curricula development and evaluation), in collaboration with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) for biodiversity-related training activities.
