Enterprises from Africa that incorporate social and environmental benefits in their business model can now apply for the 2015 SEED Awards cycle. For the eighth consecutive year, adelphi has been commissioned to manage the prestigious SEED Awards. The deadline for applications is 31 March 2015.
As in previous years, the 2015 SEED Awards will focus on eco-enterprises working at the grassroots level on the African continent. Social and environmental companies from Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania and Uganda are called to apply for a total of up to 23 SEED Africa Awards. Furthering last year's expansion of the SEED pilot country program in South Africa, this year SEED will make available up to six SEED South Africa Awards, with up to three of them to enterprises in the provinces of Free State, Limpopo or KwaZulu-Natal.
The Awards also encourage enterprises that are led or owned by women and/or specifically promote gender equality and women empowerment to submit their applications. To this end, SEED will make available two SEED Gender Equality Awards to enterprises in countries that are not OECD or EU Member countries; one of them to an enterprise in Kenya.
The independent SEED International Jury of experts will be looking in particular for enterprises that have developed innovative products or services, and intend to become financially sustainable. The SEED Awards include a prize money of USD 5000 each and will be presented at a high-level International Awards Ceremony.
Furthermore, the SEED support will provide all winners with individual capacity building support during the important start-up and growth phase, opportunities to link to other eco-enterprises and far-reaching national and international profiling of their enterprises.
