In line with international trends, the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Ltd. (APIIC) decided to transform all of its existing industrial parks into eco-industrial parks. In the pilot phase, a number of efforts related to status reports, storm water drainage, sewerage, Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETP), plantation and establishing environment management cells etc. were addressed. Since many of the existing industrial parks of the APIIC did not have adequate wastewater treatment facilities, the APIIC focused on planning, designing and constructing sewage and drainage systems in the Industrial Parks.
From 2008 to 2009, the APIIC proposed to establish CETPs in four of its industrial parks, located across Andhra Pradesh, and asked the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) to aid its tender process management. The GTZ therefore commissioned adelphi to engage in supporting the process. The local consultants continue to be supported by qualified international consultants to ensure high quality deliverables. Feasibility studies were revised and suggestions for improvement were elaborated upon.
