Over the next two years, adelphi will conduct trainings for the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) focusing on the planning and financing of renewable energy projects in India. The project is part of KfW’s technical assistance programme accompanying the fourth credit line to IREDA.
Based on India’s economic growth, both energy supply and network are facing increasing challenges: per capita energy consumption growth, supply shortages, especially during peak hours, insufficient access for a high number of citizens as well as a high demand on resources, most of which are fossil-based. The deployment of renewable energies may tackle a number of these challenges and of resulting concerns such as import dependency, subsidy burden and greenhouse gas emissions. The Indian government has taken a number of steps – the first ones reaching back to 1982 – to promote the use of renewable sources. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is the nodal ministry steering and managing all activities related to new and renewable energy in India.
As a government entity under the supervision of MNRE, the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) provides financial support to renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in India. Since its establishment in 1987, IREDA has facilitated policies and programmes of MNRE.
Within KfW’s capacity development accompanying the current financial contribution adelphi will train IREDA’s staff during the next two years. The four work packages focus on technical and financial topics concerning renewable energy project development and appraisal.
Besides class-room lessons, field trips and training on the job, an international study tour will be organized and conducted. adelphi will design, plan and conduct all trainings supported by specialists in the field. In addition, IREDA’s marketing and communication strategy will be revised and further developed to strengthen its outreach and visibility in India.
