The "Klimacheck" helps small and medium-sized enterprises in the manufacturing industry to identify whether they will be affected by extreme weather events and other consequences of climate change. By this means, companies can incorporate future climate risks into their respective business planning and to develop specific adaptation strategies preemptively. The "Klimacheck" consists of a software tool and an accompanying handbook, both of which particularly address the vulnerability of supply chains. The handbook mainly provides further background information and offers guidance on how to use the software tool, but can also be used as a guideline of its own. With its four consecutive modules, the software tool provides incremental guidance on how to deal with climate risks effectively. Since the "Klimacheck" follows established risk management processes, its results can therefore be easily incorporated into existing business management systems. The tool is based on a comprehensive risk catalogue that combines up-to-date scientific research with professional practice. It can be found in the annex of the guidebook. The Klimacheck was jointly developed with Prognos and on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi).
