Climate change constitutes a real challenge for the Lower Mekong Basin (LMB). With the need for effective adaptation strategies becoming ever more paramount, the Mekong River Commission (MRC) established the Climate Change and Adaptation Initiative (CCAI) in 2009 to foster an integrated approach to climate change adaptation planning in the region. This includes the development of a transboundary climate database and a basin-wide monitoring system.
The climate database concentrates essential and feasible indicators for monitoring climate change, its impacts, and the status of adaptation to climate change. For this purpose adelphi sets out, in cooperation with Dutch analysts FutureWater, to review existing and innovative indicators as well as monitoring systems and make specific recommendations to the MRC. Further key project objectives include the identification of gaps in the existing data collection at MRC and technical assistance with methods and tools to aggregate the recommended indicators.
