In time for the fifth anniversary of the Agenda 2030 with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the SDG 12 Online Database was launched on September 25. adelphi built the database within a research project commissioned by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Conservation of Nature and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and the German Environment Agency (UBA). SDG 12, “Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns”, targets the necessary changes in our lifestyles and our economies. To achieve sustainable consumption and sustainable production, we have to consume and produce today in a way that ensures the rightful needs of current and future generations can be fulfilled, taking into account the limits of planet earth as well as universal human rights.
Germany boasts highly developed governance, innovative businesses, and an active civil society. Together they contribute to the implementation of sustainable consumption and production patterns. To account for the diversity of implementation activities and to increase the visibility of good practices both nationally and internationally, a research project developed the publicly accessible SDG 12 Database in German and English. Currently, the database contains more than 120 activities, comprising political programmes and measures as well as initiatives from civil society and businesses.
