In India, building experts have already gathered vast experience with energy efficient buildings in commercial and residential buildings. During a study tour they will share this knowledge with their counterparts in Bangladesh and Nepal. adelphi has organised the trip within the framework
While the building sector is one of the largest energy consumers in South Asia, so far, integrated national energy efficiency strategies have been few in the region. India, however, is on the forefront compared to its neighboring counties in terms of promoting energy efficiency in buildings, providing a solid evidence base from which nations like Nepal and Bangladesh can learn and “leapfrog”.
The five day international study tour aims to transfer and apply the experiences and efforts made in India to the context of Bangladesh and Nepal through selected site visits to energy efficient building designs such as a private university campus, a hospital and the premises of German chemical company Bayer. Additionally, Indian experts from relevant energy efficiency promoting institutions, e.g. speakers from the National Housing Bank or the Indian Bureau of Energy Efficiency, share their knowledge and experiences. Participants include top policy makers, building experts, energy engineers, and architects from Nepal and Bangladesh.
