Energy-efficiency benchmarking helps reduce the workload involved in identifying possible savings. In an expert talk, specialists discussed the prospects for this instrument. In cooperation with the Austrian Energy Agency, adelphi is currently researching the underpinning methodology.
A considerable obstacle for implementing energy-efficiency measures is the heavy workload companies encounter in identifying possible savings. Energy-efficiency benchmarking can reduce the time and effort involved by enabling companies to evaluate their energy-efficiency levels based on a comparison of the specific energy requirement. In order for energy-efficiency benchmarking to be able to deliver meaningful results, quality standards are required. On behalf of the Federal Environment Agency and in cooperation with the Austrian Energy Agency, adelphi is currently researching the underpinning methodology and has presented important results in an expert talk.
25 experts from leading engineering firms, research institutes and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) took part in the event on the "Prospects for Energy-Efficiency Benchmarking". Georg Ratjen and Silas Schürmann from adelphi, and Petra Lackner from the Austrian Energy Agency gave presentations that highlighted the particular importance of measuring technology for the success of benchmarking, positioned benchmarking in operational energy-management, and presented international projects where benchmarking is successfully used as a political steering instrument.
Afterwards, the topics were discussed with the experts and recommended action was formulated.
